The mission of the Department of Paediatrics at CUHK is to discover novel scientific knowledge through robust clinical and basic research, to utilize such knowledge to establish the highest quality care for children and to provide outstanding education and training opportunities for medical students and paediatricians in disease management, research and advocacy for children.
Our Department provides inpatient and outpatient care in all major specialties– from general paediatric service to the care of the most complex cancers,haematological, rheumatological and metabolic conditions, respiratory diseases, and neonatal and critical care cases.Undergraduate students spend an 8-week module with the department in their 4th year of training, and this rotation has always been highly regarded by both local and overseas students. The training facilities are well up to par with international standards. The basic and higher specialty training programmes are fully accredited by the Hong Kong College of Paediatricians. Our Department is the sole provider of tertiary services within the New Territories East Cluster, including bone marrow transplantation, diagnostic bronchoscopy, endoscopy, neonatal (level 3) and paediatric intensive care.
Our Department also welcomes postgraduate students into our comprehensive clinical and basic science research programme especially in areas of neonatology, cancer, respiratory medicine, immunology and allergy, and basic science research. Our research is internationally recognized and throughout the years we have maintained an extremely high standard in order to remain at the forefront of the international research arena.
